...."If i were you, I would dick with them"...^^
Perhaps physically impossible and likely ethically undesireable for a lady, I guess....
This is in no way to "stumble" you, OP; please go at them full force. Just thought the choice of words was interesting.

Elder father sent me an email about Feb 2012 WT - my resposne
by TheStumbler ini'm not sure if any of you will remember but i posted on here six months ago about a correspondence i was having with my dad, an elder, about who would die in armageddon.
i was asking some tough questions about children being killed in armageddon and i could tell he uncomfortable with the answers he was giving.. i drafted an email in resposne to his email but in the end i decided not to send it in the interest of maintaining friendly relations.. .
last week, out of the blue, my dad sent an email link to the february 2012 watchtower article about armageddon and said it would answer some of my questions.. here is my response which is a critique of the feb 2012 wt article and some of the broader ethics concerning 'armageddon'.

....for example he tells me earnestly that there is no heirarchy in the Watchtower and that all JWs are considered equal. I think he actually believes things like this when he says it.
Really? Ask him then to give his elders book for binding to a sister in good standing. Equal, my a$$...

Terry,
Your expanded example is somewhat similar to what I have tried to use for reasoning with family (to no avail )
Yan Bibiyan is a Medical Doctor.
Says who?
Says in this book :"The medical studies of Yan Bibiyan", written by, ahem, Yan Bibiyan.
Well, if it was written by Yan Bibiyan, MD, it has to be true.
This borders more on "Begging the Question" but it has the same effect....

The LEGAL mindset of Jehovah's Governing authority (Plenary Power)
by Terry ina lot of the glaring distortions of common sense inherent in jehovah's witness mainstream thought flowed from the erratic legalist mindset of.
judge joe rutherford.. rutherford served for awhile as a prosecutor in a district attorney's office.. his view of "getting the job done" consisted of hammering away at an "enemy" with a litany of bullet points.. his theological mindset was hardly any different!.
look at the legal terms that seeped in to jw everyday parlance.. .

Terry, great thread!
I do not want to derail it in any way, but couldn't help noticing the year 1937 and the significant event of the "First blood bank on a large scale established at Cook County Hospital".
Is this a positive or a negative development, according to WT teachings at that time? It is followed (separated by one entry) by the 1945 "The Watchtower exposed blood transfusion"

The Stumbler,
Your replies to your father are very well composed, stripped of emotion and backed by iron-clad logic. I can only see one flaw; forgive me for nit-picking, but if corrected, it's ammo taken out of a potential response.
Your 0.001% number is incorrect. It should be either 0.001 of global population, or 0.1% of global population. 0.001% of global population puts JW membership at about 7,500. (See you are wrong, what else is wrong in your logic, you are an angry unrepentant apostate twisting facts to make your point).
Best of luck in waking up your dad! Your efforts, as frustrating as they may be, are nothing short of noble.
EDIT: And please don't start me on illustrations. If I hear one more time the "..not drinking, but injecting alcohol in your veins" analogy related to blood, I may just do that on a massive scale and be done with it once and for all...

7-7-7
by Yan Bibiyan inno, this is not a boeing-made aircraft.. it is not just a notch up from 6-6-6 either (although, it would be fitting).
7 billion people on earth.
7 million jehovah's witnesses.

No, this is not a Boeing-made aircraft.
It is not just a notch up from 6-6-6 either (although, it would be fitting)
7 Billion people on Earth
7 Million Jehovah's WItnesses
7 members of the governing body
This makes the average person's chance of survival in a purported massacre event 1/1000...not really great, but in the minds of many equal with the odds of a 3 number lottery game.
On the other hand, not only being on the right side of the fence, but being at the helm of 7 million blind followers is having a chance of 1/1,000,000,000 (yes, ONE in ONE BILLION - comparable with the odds of hitting the PowerBall!)
Thats what I call a sweet setup.
No wonder thems molded bozos feel so special...

Is NY a non-disclosure state?
Deeds and accompanying RE instruments should be a public record. Unless, of course, title is taken into trust with a token consuideration of, say $10, to make the transaction binding. Then it looks like the WT has something to hide

This contrasts with the public edition which says millions will die, when in reality it should say billions
Well, OK. Sixty-Nine hundred and Ninety-Three million people will die.
See, they are still right. Sleek laguage and all.
